Information about Sotogrande
Sotogrande is a very luxurious urbanisation with 24-hour security, which has made a name for itself over the years through famous sporting events such as the 1997 Ryder Cup in Valderrama, European Tour golf tournaments, major polo tournaments such as the Gold, Silver and Platinum Cups, and, last but not least, international sailing regattas.
The residents of Sotogrande are of international origin and some live here all year round, while others have summer and holiday homes that they visit regularly. The urbanisation, which covers an area of around 20 km2, is divided into three zones.
Firstly, there is a large marina, Puerto Sotogrande, with 625 berths. There are apartment complexes and terraced houses of various sizes. All of the apartments offer sensational views of the harbour, the sea and, in some cases, Gibraltar and the African continent (Morocco). This is also where the heart of Sotogrande is located, partly directly on the beach, with a hotel, shops, restaurants, cafés, banks, hairdressers – everything your heart could desire. The special thing about it is that you don’t need a car, but can easily reach everything on foot or by bicycle.
Then we have the Sotogrande Costa area. As the name suggests, these beautiful, large properties with their magnificent villas are located near the beach or close to the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande golf course. Each villa has a lushly landscaped garden. The American influence is clearly evident here in the architecture and the wide palm-lined streets. This is also where the first golf course, the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, was built in the early 1960s. Many people refer to Sotogrande as the Florida of Europe.
The central part, Sotogrande Bajo, has a bit of everything. Plots of land, houses and apartment complexes here also have beautiful views of the mountains, golf courses and, in some cases, the coast. Prices here are in the mid to upper range. The upper part is also home to the luxury apartment complex Valgrande, located directly opposite the Valderrama golf course, which is by far one of the best on the Costa del Sol.
Last but not least is Sotogrande Alto. Most of the villas and apartment complexes here have spectacular views on all sides. The famous La Reserva golf course was also built there in early 2000. The La Reserva de Sotogrande complex, with villas, terraced houses, flats, a lagoon pool, tennis courts, spa and children’s area, will be transformed into a country club in about 2-3 years, thanks to a large American investor. Prices here are also in the mid to very expensive range.
Sotogrande is located at the southernmost tip of Europe and therefore offers very moderate and warm temperatures all year round, ideal for golfers. Polo, water sports, tennis and horse riding facilities are also available. Sotogrande is by far the most compact resort in Europe in terms of what it has to offer.
